Making Time for Breath Meditation

I am going to spend some time breathing later tonight. I have a lot on my mind as I deal with the pain and frustrations of an injury and upcoming surgery. Even if it's a short session of trying to remain calm in my breath, it is important to begin again.

What I find helpful when preparing for my own meditation time:

         Keep it simple
*A comfortable seated position
*Soft calming music
*Incense or a scented candle
*Using a short personal mantra to repeat on each inhale and exhale, using "belly breathing"
*Starting with a goal of 20 minutes per session

I am going to get back into a routine of setting aside time to be mindful, but I'm looking forward to trying different forms of meditation soon and learning about what makes the most sense to me.

The link above is from a site I read recently. I found it very helpful as I am going to begin meditating again and working on breathing relaxation exercises.

Redefining Healthy

I have decided that I want to create a space to share personal experiences as well as what I want to learn more about in regards to paving the way towards a healthier life for myself and others.  I want to become physically, emotionally, and mentally healthier and stronger. It has become very clear to me that now, more than ever, I need to begin putting more of what I read into practice. I have many big challenges coming my way this year, but I know that if I begin to have a stronger and more positive mindset that it is going to make a huge difference in how I view 2013 from this point forward. I used to think of health from an exercise only viewpoint. I need to change my perception of health and what will make me happier and healthier now, with where my body is now, not in the past or in the future. I want to use this blog for sharing topics of diet, movement, recipes, nutrition, positive sayings and quotes, books, music, laughter, breathing and meditation, relaxation, holistic health care, friends, family, and so much more. That's all for now...I have to figure out how to use this blog!
